Since I started blogging in October of 2007, I’ve posted a mere 24 posts.
I guess you could say, that by conventional wisdom this blog is a failure. I don’t post every day, not even every month, there is no adverting, and little link traffic.
I don’t really care.
This blog gives me a sounding board, let’s me find my voice as a writer, and most importantly, I’ve made some good friends from it.
So I call it a win.
I am going to be giving up gaming to get the ball rolling on a couple of projects, including changing this to a less sporadic blog, so stay tuned true believers!
In the meantime, I thought I would reboot this blog by highlighting 5 of my favorite posts so far.
(Yes, I got that idea from watching too much of TNT’s Basketball coverage, and no, I am not ashamed to admit it.)
- Games are Big Business: This was my first real post on Game Finance. I tried launching the blog a couple of times before (you can find references to it in Google), but this was the first time the blog “stuck” for me. A sentimental favorite, even if I cringe at the writing.
- The Problem With Projections: I have an ongoing issue with people running around taking projections with tons of assumptions in their model, and then treating them as if they were actuals. It’s intellectually lazy, misleading, and we are better than that.
- Olivia: Just read it, and you will see why.
- What is Your Social Contract? I totally cribbed Amber on this, and I am glad I did. If I rewrote it for 2009, there would be some tweaking around the edges, but basically it holds up. That is a statement in itself!
- The Death of “Me Too” Blogging This was my most controversial post to date. Would I change some of what I wrote now? Yes. I wrote this when I was frustrated with the lack of originality in my RSS feeds, and posted it “heat of the moment.” I didn’t take it down, or retract any of it, because I still believe that we should be advancing knowledge and discourse, not just reinforcing the echo chamber.
That is my top 5 so far.
I am going to Post my Top 5 Posts I Wish I Had Written someday, so stop back and see who made the cut, and why.
